Ground-Mounted Solar Panel Installation
If your property lacks sufficient roof space for solar panels or you have ample land available, a ground-mount solar installation is an excellent solution to generate clean, renewable energy. Insolation Solar specialises in creating bespoke ground-mounted solar panel systems throughout Derbyshire, helping homeowners, farmers, and businesses utilise their land effectively to reduce energy costs and minimise their carbon footprint.
Unlike traditional rooftop solar panels, ground-mounted solar panels are installed on strong, adjustable frames anchored directly into the ground. This allows optimal positioning and angling to capture maximum sunlight throughout the day, regardless of roof shape or shading. Whether you own farmland, commercial property, or a large residential estate, a ground-mount solar PV system offers increased flexibility, higher energy output, and substantial long-term savings.
One of our recent customers near Wolverhampton had acres of open farmland and decided to invest in a solar ground-mount system to reduce energy bills and future-proof his property (see below).
A Recent Ground Mount Solar System Installation:
One of our recent projects involved installing an 88-panel ground-mounted solar system on a farm near Wolverhampton. The client utilised a portion of his field, elevating the panels to allow sheep to graze beneath, thus creating a multifunctional area that combines renewable energy generation with ongoing agricultural use.
Our skilled team completed the installation within seven days, handling ground preparation, trenching, frame assembly, wiring, and system commissioning. The system consists of 88 Longi Explorer 435W solar panels, two Growatt inverters, and two Tesla Powerwall 3 battery units. Upon completion, the site was left clean and fully operational.
With a total capacity of 38.28kW, this system is expected to generate around 39,000 kilowatt-hours (39 MWh) of clean electricity annually, significantly reducing the farm’s dependence on the grid.
Environmental and Financial Benefits:
Installing a ground-mounted solar panel system like this greatly benefits the environment by offsetting carbon emissions equivalent to planting 717 trees each year. It also saves over 11,900 litres of petrol and prevents burning more than 13,500 kilograms of coal annually. Financially, the farm enjoys nearly £8,000 in annual energy savings, with further increases expected as energy prices rise.
