Commercial Solar Installation for Hughes Print, Wolverhampton

Insolation Solar recently completed a comprehensive commercial solar installation for Hughes Print, a well-established printing business based in Wolverhampton. This project highlights Insolation Solar’s ability to deliver fully integrated commercial solar solutions that improve building efficiency, reduce operating costs and support long-term sustainability goals for businesses across the West Midlands.

As a local, family-run solar installation company, Insolation Solar worked closely with Hughes Print to deliver a carefully planned project that combined roofing improvements with a high-performance solar PV system. This joined-up approach allowed Hughes Print to enhance the overall efficiency of their premises while significantly reducing reliance on grid electricity.

Project Overview

Hughes Print required a solution that would improve the thermal performance of their building while also enabling a transition to renewable energy. Insolation Solar designed and managed a complete package that included over-cladding the existing roof, installing a new warm roof system and integrating a commercial solar PV installation, all without disrupting daily business operations.

By managing both the roofing works and the solar installation in-house, Insolation Solar removed the complexity of coordinating multiple contractors, ensuring a seamless delivery from start to finish.

System Design and Installation

To maintain full operational continuity, the existing roof was over-clad, allowing Hughes Print to continue trading throughout the works. Once full insulation was installed, a new roof system was completed, creating an ideal base for the solar array.

The commercial solar installation comprises a 34.365kW system made up of 79 high-performance LONGi solar panels. The system is designed to deliver excellent efficiency and long-term reliability, with an estimated annual generation of approximately 28 MWh and an overall system efficiency of 92 percent. All works were delivered by Insolation Solar’s experienced in-house team, ensuring high standards of workmanship and compliance throughout.

Environmental Impact

By generating clean, renewable electricity on site, Hughes Print has taken a significant step towards reducing its carbon footprint and supporting Net Zero objectives. The combination of improved building insulation and solar generation reduces overall energy demand while lowering emissions associated with grid-supplied electricity, delivering clear environmental benefits for the business.

Financial Performance

From a financial perspective, the installation is already delivering strong results. Hughes Print achieved first-year electricity savings of approximately £5,642.66, with further reductions expected as energy prices continue to rise. In addition, the improved thermal performance of the building has reduced heating requirements, further lowering ongoing energy costs and improving comfort within the workspace.

Client Testimonial:

A big thank you to all at Insolation Solar for their efforts throughout our project. For someone who isn’t an expert in solar PV I found their advice on our install to be knowledgeable and the approach relaxed which allowed us to consider things properly and make the right decision for us.

As we made use of a Net Zero Carbon grant scheme there were a few boxes to tick which we were well supported by them with throughout, but it also meant we did end up speaking to several potential suppliers. I spoke to a lot of people who all knew their stuff but ultimately found Insolation Solar in the front running. They’re local to our site which is important to us and had other recent and local installations which gave us confidence of a successful project.

In addition to the Solar array as part of the whole project we added a new roof to our main workshop greatly improving the efficiency of the building. We had a nice warm factory yet frost on the roof till lunchtime which speaks volumes, we used to get the frost on the underside of the roof and drips as it quickly defrosted with heat radiating out of the roof panels. This part of the project was also handled by Insolation Solar which for me was ideal as it saved project managing separate suppliers or having any complications between roof & solar panel installations.

I think the building looks great, feels much more comfortable inside with what seems like possibly less half the heating power to previous and our 12-month energy quote that has just been proposed based on our new power usage has reduce significantly. It’s excellent for the business both as a financial exercise and to reinforce our sustainability ethos.
