What is the Energy Price Cap?
Regulator Ofgem implemented the Price Cap on January 1, 2019, in an effort to stop millions of households on costly variable tariffs from being taken advantage of.

Who Will Be Affected by the Energy Price Cap?
The Energy Price Cap applies to default energy tariffs. These are tariffs you are automatically placed on if you haven’t chosen a different deal.
The Price Cap applies whether you pay by Direct Debit, cash, cheque or prepayment.
You will usually be on a price-capped tariff if:
- You’ve never switched your energy tariff
- Your fixed deal has ended
- Your energy supplier has gone bust
- You’ve moved home
How Can Solar Panels Reduce Your Energy Bills?
One of the easiest ways to reduce your energy costs is by reducing your usage… or you could install solar panels to produce sustainable energy. Solar panels can reduce energy bills by generating your own electricity from sunlight, helping you use less energy from the grid.
Installing a battery means you can store excess electricity that’s generated during the day, allowing it to be used later rather than exported to the grid.
Why Consider Solar Before Energy Prices Rise?
An increase in the energy price cap means the cost of electricity from the grid could increase for many households. While solar panels won’t remove your energy bills completely, generating your own electricity can help reduce the amount of energy you need to buy.
Solar is also a long-term investment. A well-designed solar PV system can continue generating renewable electricity for many years, helping you reduce your reliance on the grid and take greater control of your energy costs. They work through every season and offers a more sustainable solution for sourcing your energy.
